PTFE

PolyTetraFluorEthylene

SCROLL

PTFE is a semi-crystalline fluoroplastic with exceptionally high chemical and thermal resistance (-200 to +260°C, up to 300°C for short periods).

Additionally, this thermoplastic material demonstrates outstanding sliding properties, an anti-adhesive surface, and top insulation properties. It is, however, subject to low mechanical strength and a high specific weight in comparison to other plastics. PTFE can be provided as a compound with extenders such as glass fibres, carbon, or bronze to improve its mechanical properties. Due to its structure, this material is formed as a semi-finished product in press processing and then machined.

PTFE Properties
  • Very good sliding properties (lowest friction value of all hard materials)
  • Can be used in a very broad range of temperatures (-200°C to +260°C)
  • Very good chemical resistance
  • Resistant to hydrolysis and hot steam
  • No absorption of moisture
  • Physiologically safe (BGA and FDA approved)
  • Very good UV resistance
  • Very good dampening properties
  • Good electrical insulation capacity (unfilled type)
  • Average mechanical strength
