Polyolefins


Polyolefins consist purely of hydrocarbon. From this group, the two most important materials for the manufacture of technical parts are


PE (PolyEthylen) and
PP (PolyPropylen)
PE 300 (PolyEthylen 300)


  • Molar mass (approx. 300.000 g/mol.)
The so called HD PE (high density PE), produced through low pressure polymerisation, is a very versatile and widely useable material which can be used in almost all technical fields. With increased molecular weight, many properties are improved in PE.

  • Dimensional stability in hot temperatures
  • Resistance to tension crack corrosion
  • Good gliding behaviour
  • Available in many formats
  • Good value for money
  • Very good chemical and corrosion resistance
  • High ultimate elongation and durability
  • Good electrical and dialectical properties
  • easily weldable
  • Physiologically safe
  • BGA and FDA approved
Low mechanical strength compared to PE 500 and PE 1000.

PE 500 (PolyEthylen 500)

  • Molar mass (approx. 500.000 g/mol.)
Properties:
  • Good combination of durability, rigidity, wear resistance and mechanical attenuation
  • easily weldable
  • Physiologically safe
  • BGA and FDA approved
  • good chemical resistance
  • No moisture absorption
  • Low friction coefficient
  • Good resistance to rays (x rays and gamma)
This material can be used in a range of applications.

PE 1000 (PolyEthylen 1000)

  • Molar mass (approx. 4.000.000 g/mol.)
Properties:
  • Of all PE HD types, this material distinguishes itself by its well-balanced range of properties. The combination of wear resistance and impact resistance up to -200°C is not found in any other material.
Further properties include:
  • High chemical resistance
  • Very good anti-static properties
  • Physiologically safe
  • BGA and FDA approved
  • No moisture absorption
  • Low friction coefficient

TivarŪ Materials

This a modified type of PE1000. By specific additions, certain properties of the original material can be greatly improved.


Tivar® H.O.T. (Higher Operating Temperature)

Tivar® H.O.T is finished with antioxidant additives which ensure a longer action time in high temperatures (80°C to 135°C, depending on load). Tivar® H.O.T provides an economical alternative to Polyamide and especially PTFE due to its range of properties.

  • High temperature resistance
  • Finished with antioxidants
  • Suitable for use with food according to EU regulation 2002/72/EC, 
    FDA-Regulations 21CFR177.1520 and 21CFR178.2010
  • Low coefficient of sliding friction
  • High abrasion resistance
  • Higher durability in increased temperatures (80°C to 135°C, depending on load)
  • Very good chemical resistance
  • No moisture absorption
  • Opaque white colour (not translucent like most PEs)

Tivar® CleanStat

Tivar® CleanStat is an UHMW-PE material for use in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Tivar® CleanStat is antistatically finished and fulfils the requirements of the European food law (EU regulation 2002/72/EU) and FDA regulations 21CFR177.1520 and 21CFR178.2010 for contact with food.

  • Antistatic
  • Suitable for use with food according to EU regulation 2002/72/EC, 
    FDA-Regulations 21CFR177.1520 and 21CFR178.2010
  • Low coefficient of sliding friction
  • High abrasion resistance
  • Long service life
  • Good chemical resistance
  • Good silencer
  • No moisture absorption
Applications:
  • Sliding and driving components for the food and pharmaceutical industries

Tivar® Super Plus

Tivar® Super Plus is a wear optimised, partially cross linked UHMW-PE material for extremely high requirements and loads.


Properties:
  • Very good abrasion resistance
  • Very good anti-static properties
  • Good dimensional stability
  • Low thermal elongation
  • Long service life
  • Very good chemical resistance
Applications:
  • Sliding and driving components for the food industry and conveyor technology
  • Neckrings and guide rails in the beverage and bottling industries
  • Sophisticated applications in the paper industry

PP (PolyPropylen)

Compared to PE, PP has higher rigidity, durability and stability.

It has a 10-15°C higher service temperature than PE. PP also has a lower impact value and less sliding properties.

  • Very good chemical and corrosion resistance
  • Physiologically safe
  • BGA and FDA approved
  • Good electrical insulation properties
  • High resistance to stress cracking
By special additions, the basic properties can be altered:
  • Antistatic = no static build up
  • Fibre glass = higher mechanical stability
  • Powder talc = improved friction properties while retaining good mechanical and electrical qualities
